Trailblazer (formerly Youth Camp 5th-9th)

Camp Luther Home » 2012 Summer Camps » Trailblazer (5th-9th)

Trailblazer is a specially designed residential camp for youth grades 5-9*.   Intentional activities within camper groups provide opportunities for friendships and faith to grow.  Trailblazer changes this up every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with something new called “Choose Their Own Adventure”!  These adventures allow campers to interact with campers outside of their group while participating in favorite activities on-camp or off-site.   Trailblazer is an outstanding experience for your child as they grow in faith and maturity.

Campers can choose to stay in one of five outpost villages or in the dormitory-style Retreat Center.  Campers in villages prepare and eat many of their meals over a fire.  Retreat Center campers have a cookout and optional camp-out during their stay.

*All grade levels are based on current grade levels at the time of registration.

Retreat Center Housing

Campers housed in the Retreat Center share a room with 3 other campers. Campers may request one friend as a roommate. Each camper group participates in an overnight campout during their stay. Retreat Center campers are grouped in all-girl and all-boy groups of 8-12 campers.

Village Housing

Each village houses 12-16 campers and is staffed by two counselors and two junior counselors. Village campers prepare 1-2 meals outdoors daily, while all other meals are served in the Dining Hall. Each village is equipped with a kitchen center, fire circle, water spigot, privy and is supported by two common bathhouses with separate showers, sinks, toilets and changing rooms. Staying in a village offers the opportunity to spend more time outdoors and a more "rustic" lifestyle. Villages are co-ed with separate housing for boys and girls.

The daily schedule is similar regardless of housing accommodations. There are a host of exciting activities to choose from at Camp Luther. In addition to the many outdoor activities there are also special rainy day activities, a skit night and crafts. 7th-9th grade weeks may include a dance, optional overnight canoe trip, and other special activities and events.
