Specialty Staff Positions:

Camp Luther will be hiring one (1) maintenance assistant and three (3) kitchen assistants for this upcoming summer. Unlike our other summer staff positions which require you to have completed your freshman year in college, these roles are available to anyone who is 18+ years old. These positions also allow you to serve camp and be a part of our summer staff team without the camper-care responsibilities that are the focus of most of our other summer staff positions. To apply for these positions, please fill out a 2019 staff profile through the NLOMA website. Once you have completed the application, if you selected Camp Luther as your first choice camp, we will be forwarded your application and will contact you to set up an interview.

Staff Training:

All staff undergo two weeks of intensive staff training, covering a variety of topics, including ministry leadership, faith formation, child and youth development, facilitative leadership, program planning, and risk management. This time is also focused on personal formation and community development. Staff training is required for all staff and is May 28 to June 9, 2019.

Program Coordinators and KBC Team Leaders, who serve in a variety of leadership roles during the summer, begin staff training on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

The summer begins for most summer staff members with staff training on Tuesday, May 28. Summer programming starts on Sunday, June 9 and concludes on Tuesday, August 20. Earlier end dates may be available, but hiring preference is given to candidates who are able to complete all weeks of camp.

Work and Time Off:

You will work very hard if selected to a part of the Camp Luther staff team. Staff work from early in the morning to late in the evening, with very little personal time. Counselors spend nearly every hour of the day with their campers, while Program Coordinators have grueling and unglamorous duties to fulfill each day. This is the hardest job you'll ever love. All staff will receive on average one day off per week. In addition, all staff receive one hour off each day.

Salaries range from $2,700-$3,000 over the course of the summer, depending on position and experience. All summer staff members are additionally provided with full room and board.

Summer Staff Application Process:

To apply to serve as part of our summer staff team, all you need to do is fill out the 2019 NLOMA profile form through the NLOMA website. Once you have filled out the application, if you selected Camp Luther as your first choice camp, we will be forwarded your application and will contact you to set up an interview.

What is NLOMA?

At Camp Luther, we are a partner camp of the National Lutheran Outdoors Ministry Association (NLOMA). This organization is made up of more than 25 LCMS camps across the country. We share a common application with the other NLOMA camps. This means that when you apply to work at Camp Luther, your application will also be seen by the other NLOMA camps. Don't worry--we'll see your application first, but if you don't wind up working here, you have the opportunity to work at many other places across the country!

You can explore the many different camps that make up NLOMA by going HERE. Who knows? God may be calling you to a new place this summer!

Leadership Staff Application Process:

Because our Program Coordinators and KBC Staff serve in important leadership roles during the summer, a separate application is required for these positions. If you are interested in serving in one of our leadership roles, please fill out this application. Once you've completed the application, we will contact you to let you know about the next steps of the hiring process.

Hiring Timeline:

  • The initial deadline for Leadership Staff applications is November 1, 2018. Hiring decisions will be made by January 1, 2019 for all initial applicants. After that point, applications will still be accepted for any open positions.
  • The 2019 NLOMA application will be made available on the NLOMA website in early November 2018. The initial deadline for counselor applications and specialty staff positions is February 11, 2019. Hiring decisions will be made by February 25, 2019 for all applicants who meet this deadline. After that point, applications will still be accepted for any open positions.
  • Every year, Camp Luther receives more staff applications than we have positions available. For this reason, the earlier you apply the better. The later we receive your application, the more likely it is that we will have already finalized our hiring decisions for the summer.
