Bear Den Duplex Family Camp Use

Camp Luther is blessed to have our new cottage duplex, the Bear Den, currently under construction. The plan is for that building to be done in time for the beginning of summer, and we wanted to share how we intend to use that space during the summer months.

During the 11 weeks of our summer programming, all of our cottages (17 counting the new duplex) are used for our Family Camp program. The Camp Luther Family Camp program exists to build families up in Christ by providing a place where families can spend time together and encounter the love of Jesus in an incredible outdoor setting. A part of how this program functions is that once you have a spot in Family Camp, you keep the same cottage for the same week of the summer as long as you continue to put down a deposit. This means that each week we have awesome communities that have formed where people really get to know each other and build meaningful Christian relationships with the other people who attend that week. People love this program and wish to continue to be a part of it, but we also therefore do not have all that many openings for the over 300 families on our waiting list who seek to start being a part of the program.

Rather than filling this cottage the traditional way, our plan is that each summer we will fill this duplex with 22 different Waiting List families. Rather than blessing 22 new families for a single summer, we will instead get to bless 22 different families each summer. As opposed to people waiting 5, 10, 15, or 20 years to get the opportunity to come to camp with their family, they can get that experience much sooner. This allows us to achieve our goal of getting more families to camp more often to be built up in Jesus.

Some helpful details to know:

• You must be on the Family Camp Waiting List (under the Reserve a New Cottage option) to enter this drawing. The link to the Google form will be sent directly to these families via email. If you are not on the Family Camp waiting list and wish to be, contact slingshot@campluther.com for more information.

• This is not a permanent spot in the Family Camp program, it is only for a single week a single summer.

• Anyone entering the duplex drawing will remain on the list for a permanent spot in the Family Camp program and their spot on the waiting list will not be affected at all by this drawing.

• The drawing is for either Black Bear or Polar Bear, not the entirety of the Bear Den duplex. This includes 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and all of our normal cottage supplies.

• The initial email with the Google Form will go out Tuesday, March 11th.

• The deadline to respond will be the end of the day on Tuesday, March 25th.

• Initial families that are drawn will be contacted by Friday, March 28th at the latest. They will then have 2 weeks to respond and send Camp Luther a non-refundable $350 deposit that will hold your cottage until your arrival in the summer.

• If we have not received a response by the 2 week mark or if a spot has been declined we will draw a new family for that opening, so please know that even if you do not hear from us immediately you may still receive an offer for a duplex opening.

• If you are drawn and accept an opening, there is a cooldown period before you are able to enter again.

• One entry allowed per household.

Come to camp this summer with your family by enjoying an amazing weekend retreat at camp hosted by our incredible staff! Throughout the weekend different family-oriented activities will be led by our staff, but you can set your own schedule based on the needs of your family. It’s vacation with a purpose - build lasting memories, be encouraged in your faith, and get away together. Food and housing (Retreat Center and Villages) provided.

Come to camp this summer with your family or small group and stay in one of Camp Luther’s awesome villages! It’s like camping, but way cooler. Plus, you’re at camp and will have access to a ton of fun camp activities.

Each village has six different rooms equipped with bunkbeds and mattresses for your group to spread out in, and comes complete with a campfire circle, firepit grill, and kitchen prep area. All villages will be able to use a centrally located showerhouse (complete with lights/electricity, bathrooms, sinks, and showers). No meals will be provided by Camp Luther - please plan to bring your own food and cook out at your village or take advantage of local dining options.

Kindercamp is a program designed to allow parents (or aunts, uncles, godparents, or other significant adults) to take a break and bond with their child while experiencing an incredible weekend at camp together. Our trained staff will lead a variety of fun, engaging activities, allowing you to relax and enjoy creating those unforgettable memories.
